September 12, 2004

A match of sorts was set for tonight, between |[FnS]| and [DHT]. What happened couldn't exactly be called a match, but more of a partially controlled descent into chaos.

The prematch was set in ts_lobby, and play began. About three to four minutes into the match, almost all players were kicked from the server due to a known bug in the modification. After rejoining and playing the remaining time, |[FnS]| gained enough points to be declared the winner. Little did they know what trouble would face the clan before the end of the night.

The map chosen by |[FnS]| was ts_hammertime. Already certain of a win, unless [DHT] were to suddenly change strategies, the clan was confident that there would be no more trouble facing them. They were wrong. Not only did [DHT] beat |[FnS]| soundly, but the maximum frags per map was reached, resetting the map before the match time of ten minutes was complete!

Reeling not only from the point difference between the two clans, but also from the error in the server settings, Eventine (aka Quickening) furiously began searching for a solution.

Angered and frustrated by yet another server issue, [DHT] suggested moving to their server, where such problems were not found. It was agreed, albeit somewhat reluctantly due to past issues with ping, to move to the [DHT] server.

Pings were still rather poor, ranging around one hundred fifty milliseconds more than in the |[FnS]| server. Still, things remained hopeful, somewhat. Paintballfreak66 left suddenly to drive to another house with a better computer, leaving |[FnS]| a man down. Tom_BrokeOff offered to remotely administrate the server to even the teams. Despite warnings from MedHead, Pinky, a raw temporary recruit, wrote an offensive remark in team chat, which was immediately seen by Tom_BrokeOff. After Tom noticed this, and presented it to his clan members, relations between the two clans became worrisome.

Eventine, who up until this point had been away from the [DHT] server, stated that the problem with the fraglimit on the |[FnS]| server had been resolved, and because of the better pings, players were welcome to return. Because of this and the poor ping on the [DHT] server, both clans moved back.

The debate about Pinky's comments continued on the |[FnS]| server. Pinky apologized, and the ten minute match began again.

As before, [DHT] not only outscored |[FnS]|, but also reached two hundred points, the frag count that changed the map in the previous attempt.

It did it again - the fix didn't work. It was agreed that [DHT] won the match, due to their overwhelming lead. It was unfortunate events went the way they did. |[FnS]| would like to extend its apologies to any remaining offended [DHT] members left since the match.

In other news, MedHead has left the clan.

Because of the extreme amount of lag experienced on the official match between |[FnS]| and [TpG] in Game Six of the GPC TDM on June 12, both teams agreed to schedule a rematch on a different server. The match was scheduled for the night of June 26, and was to be played on the VadaVaka |[FnS]| server. Unfortunately, for reasons as of now unknown, not a single [TpG] member showed up for the match, nor were they on any instant messenger program or any popular The Specialists IRC rooms.

Because of our "match ready" state, VGJunky suggested playing with [DHT] again. We were able to get a 6vs6 game going, and it was quite fun. Quickening wanted to keep the GPC TDM match rules in play, so both teams agreed to a prematch on ts_lobby for 10 minutes, and a 20 minute map of the winner's choice.

|[FnS]| won the prematch (approximate score/death) 210/92 to 175/129. The map ts_awaken was chosen for the 20 minute match, where |[FnS]| won 519/184 to 345/317. Both teams agreed it was a very fun match, and made up for the lack of [TpG] players. JohnnyRotten of [DHT] unfortunately experienced some lag, but [DHT] did not request a different server.

The rosters were as follows (in order of score at end of match):

|[FnS]| [DHT]
V  Mr.Pants owns time
Quickening Tom BrokeOff
Kid Sid Vicious
paintballfreak66 Wrath
VGJunky Cali-Rag
MedHead JohnnyRotten

There are currently two demos available of the match, taken from the perspective of MedHead: the prematch, and the match. Update: Quickening has offered his demo. Note: adult language likely contained within. If this could be extracted and removed by the webmaster, it would.

V (yes, just "V") has joined the clan. He has been added to the roster.

VGJunky has decided to lay low for a undetermined amount of time, so he can regain his skills without the pressure of clan life.

Reverend has decided to remove himself from the clan for the time being. He feels his skills could improve more by being clanless for the moment.

Here are a few words from Reverend about his decision:

I feel like I have to live up to something in FnS, and I feel like I'm not as good as you guys, and I'm trying to be. I feel like I'm trying too hard in this game, which is why I found it boring and I went to other games. It's because it wasn't fun to me, trying hard to be like people in FnS. And......I feel like I don't want to care about score or anything anymore, not my title or whatever, just have a good time, instead of trying to be good and stuff. I know this isn't what FnS is about or anything.

I'm not saying that FnS is all about being amazing and the best, I'm just saying it's full of the most skilled TS players I've ever seen.

If you want me to stay in FnS, I will. I'm still not sure. I'm just saying I might want to start over again and find myself. I'm not going to wear the HwK tag if I do, I'll just be "Rev." or "Reverend" or Condoleezza or something. HwK doesn't bother me, it's just a community to me. I'm not going to wear the tag though, probably.

I was playing last night as Rev, and I really had a good time. I jsut need to kick back and relax. And the score button was binded.

But this shouldn't change our relationship at all. I just don't want to feel all high and mighty right now, I realize it's taking over my perspective at TS.

I'm not going to just not use the tag and say I'm still in. I'm not going to ditch you for some other clan, I'm clanless. Just have fun with myself, and have the time of my life. All I'm saying is that I feel like I needed to be better, which I just need to let go of. It's nothing bad about FnS that I'm leaving.

See you later, Rev.

The match between [TpG] and |[FnS]| has been postponed for at least one week, due to availability issues. Any further updates will be posted here.

The match between [TpG] and |[FnS]| is being replayed next week! Both sides were dissatisfied with the ping and would like to rematch. It is uncertain whether this will be considered "official" or not.

As of this writing, Quickening expects to be playing the match on VadaVaka's The Specialists server, which has enjoyed better pings than the official tournament server has been giving lately.

|[FnS]| lost their first match! [TpG] claimed the victory in Tier Three of The Gentlemen's Club Team Death Match Tournament. The game was difficult, with high pings on both sides. Unfortunately for the team, [TpG] had a better strategy and a steadier hand, though the game was very closely matched. Good game, [TpG].

|[FnS]| successfully triumphed over [DHT]. This not only marks the first organized win for |[FnS]|, but for the GPC TDM as well! To learn more about the event, head on over to the Gentlemen's Pistol Club Team Death Match Tournament website.

The match was intense, with many frayed nerves in anticipation of the final result. However, despite that, and being a man short of a full roster, |[FnS]| were able to throughly beat the opposition. Good game, [DHT], it was memorable. Thank you again for taking the time to challenge us.
